  • In film photography, contact sheets were used to allow a photographer to view all the frames from a roll of film in print. Contact sheets get their name from the way they’re made: by placing negative strips directly onto a piece of photographic paper and making a print. In the digital age, a contact sheet is a pdf file with a grid of thumbnail images and file names of all the photos in a project. Coin Photography Studio provides a contact sheet for easy image reference for a small fee.

  • There are no hidden fees are associated with our services – just the cost of the photo shoot itself. Any extras will be quoted separately.

  • Most orders can be immediately processed using Paypal or etransfer. Coin Photography Studio reserves the right, at our sole discretion, to require an alternate method of payment for any order we deem to be necessary. If you would like to pay by wire transfer or other electronic fund transfer, bank draft or postal money order, please contact us.

  • Unfortunately, economies of scale don’t typically apply to coin photography. Each coin—regardless of how many are submitted—requires individual lighting, setup, focus, and editing to ensure it’s captured with precision and accuracy. Unlike mass production, where unit cost decreases with volume, coin photography remains a highly specialized, hands-on process. This is what ensures that every image reflects the unique character, condition, and detail of each coin—whether it’s one or one hundred.

  • It depends on the number and type of coins involved – however, most shoots can be completed within two weeks.

  • No, you don’t need to be present while your coins are being photographed. We will plan and discuss the details of your coin imaging and what kind of images you require in detail before we begin the shoot.

  • Professional coin photographers should have training, certification or experience in the field of commercial photography - though training in numismatics isn’t necessary. • That’s a thoughtful question—and one I hear from collectors who care deeply about how their coins are presented.

When you choose Coin Photography Studio, you’re commissioning a portrait of your coin. My role is to bring its qualities forward through lighting, angle, and detail—but the coin itself plays the starring role.

And here’s the truth: not all coins are naturally photogenic. At the same time, I work hard to find the most flattering and revealing angles; the final image is shaped as much by the coin’s natural features as by the camera. I can make the most of what’s there—but I can’t change what’s not.

That said, art is subjective. When a photographer is commissioned to create work and the result isn’t received as expected—even when it aligns with the photographer's style and vision—it presents a complex yet familiar challenge. You might admire my past work yet still feel that your coin looks different from what you expected.  That’s completely understandable.

    Here’s how I address that:

    1. We review the image together.

Every coin has its own set of visual challenges and strengths—whether it's deep toning, reflective surfaces, weak strikes, scratches, or uneven wear. These characteristics play a significant role in how a coin photographs, often more than people realize. Suppose you're unsure about the final result. In that case, it’s worth revisiting the coin together—either virtually or in person—and discussing how its specific condition affected the lighting, detail, and overall impression in the image. I’ll explain the choices made—why a particular lighting setup was used, what features were emphasized, and how the coin’s unique condition shaped the result.

Understanding these traits helps set realistic expectations and highlights how the image remains true to the coin’s actual appearance.

    2. I can offer alternate edits, if appropriate.

If we agree that a different tone, crop, or subtle adjustment might better reflect your expectations, I’ll explore that—provided it stays within the bounds of my style and the coin’s actual appearance.

The lighting used in your image was carefully chosen to highlight the coin’s most important visual features. Every coin responds differently to light, and I draw on years of experience to select the angle and setup that best showcases what makes each piece distinctive.

While I understand that different lighting can create different moods or effects, the pricing for standard sessions allows for one carefully crafted lighting approach per coin. Extensive experimentation across multiple lighting styles isn’t built into the base tier.

That said, if there’s a particular element you hoped to see differently—like the lustre, edge, or tone—let me know. If I can make a slight adjustment without re-shooting the entire coin, I’ll do my best to accommodate.
